01 / THE PLUG-IN HYBRID SUV

Choose the Song Plus around the journeys it must make.

The BYD Song Plus DM-i combines a petrol engine, electric drive and an externally rechargeable traction battery. Plan its use as a plug-in hybrid, with both energy sources and the exact vehicle in view.

What is your normal day?

Describe the regular commute, the longest recurring journey, passenger load and where the car will park. Include road speed, hills, traffic and heating or air-conditioning use. A car that suits a short commute may face a different energy balance on a loaded motorway trip. Keep a reserve for diversions rather than treating an advertised electric range as the distance every used car will cover.

If several people will drive it, agree who charges, who holds the keys and which equipment must be consistent. Those practical details help define a useful vehicle brief.

How often can you charge?

Dependable home, workplace or return-to-base charging can change how much stored electrical energy you use. Limited charging access creates a different routine; the petrol and hybrid systems remain relevant, but a charged-battery consumption result is not a forecast for that use. Compare electricity, fuel, installation, public charging and parking costs together. Start with the energy plan and your intended charging arrangement.

Which Song is proposed?

Confirm Song Plus DM-i rather than Song Plus EV, Song Pro DM-i, DM-p or another BYD model. Similar names or photographs do not establish matching hardware. A different regional sales name also needs a matching specification and vehicle identity. Ask Panda for a separate comparison if another model is under consideration, with its own equipment, condition and price.

02 / IDENTIFY THE OFFER

Build a consistent record of the exact version.

The badge establishes a model family. The VIN, production information and installed equipment establish the car you are considering.

What should match?

Request the VIN, identification labels, registration records and current photographs. Separate production date from first registration and reconcile the proposed specification with the documents. Match the battery identification and charging equipment, including any repair or replacement record. Resolve inconsistent listing details before comparing prices or accepting a substitute.

RecordWhat it establishes
IdentityVIN, production information, market and registration status.
Hybrid systemEngine, installed battery, charging equipment and relevant changes.

What about market names?

BYD introduced the Song Plus DM-i to Europe as SEAL U DM-i. Keep the DM-i suffix: SEAL U without it can refer to a battery-electric model. The regional name does not establish identical batteries, charging hardware, trim or approval documents for a China-market car. Tell us the destination and exact specification you need rather than ordering by a regional badge alone.

Can specifications be transferred?

Battery options, charging capability, driver assistance, multimedia and connected functions can differ by production version and market. A current new-car brochure or an overseas specification is not proof of an earlier China-market car's equipment. Keep the relevant version and test basis attached to each capacity, range or performance figure. Do not add engine and motor peak outputs to create an unsupported combined rating.

Nominal battery capacity, usable energy and present battery health are separate questions. A dashboard charge percentage describes an operating charge level, not a capacity certificate. Where a seller provides a health figure or a replacement-pack claim, ask for the method, identification and supporting records tied to that car.

What about new cars?

The US$7,000–10,000 reference concerns used Song Plus DM-i sourcing. New cars require a separate quotation after specification, production and registration status, and availability are checked. Broad model coverage does not mean every earlier version remains available new. Put your preferences in the enquiry and compare the written purchase scope.

03 / PETROL AND ELECTRICITY

Compare energy use on a realistic basis.

DM-i manages the petrol and electric systems according to operating conditions. The engine can generate electricity or contribute through a mechanical drive path.

What does plugging in change?

External charging replenishes stored electrical energy. When regular charging is unavailable, hybrid operation offers a different petrol-and-electric balance, subject to fuel availability and normal system requirements. Engine operation can also depend on battery conditions, power demand and thermal needs. A low-speed electric demonstration does not guarantee an entire journey without the engine starting.

Ask for normal operating behaviour to be explained during handover. Investigate unusual warnings or behaviour through diagnostic and road-test evidence rather than identifying a fault from engine sound alone.

Which range is quoted?

Electric-only test-cycle range, combined petrol-and-electric range, a dashboard estimate and a measured journey are different results. Fuel consumption with a charged battery also differs from charge-sustaining fuel use. Compare like-for-like methods and conditions. Temperature, speed, tyres, load and the present condition of the vehicle affect actual operation.

What is in the cost?

Use local electricity and fuel prices, and allow for charging losses where measured. Consider public-station fees, installation, parking and downtime. Electricity billed at a charger need not equal a dashboard energy reading. For a used car, combine the operating plan with engine, battery and charging evidence; a short test does not establish full usable battery energy or future running costs.

04 / THE CHARGING ARRANGEMENT

Match the actual car to a usable charging setup.

Confirm the interfaces, capability and operating method on the selected Song Plus DM-i. Charging equipment from another market or version is not automatically suitable.

What needs identifying?

Request inlet photographs, labels and matching vehicle information. If the China-market car has GB/T equipment, assess that exact configuration against the destination supply, charger and network. A qualified installer should check voltage, frequency, phase, current limits, electrical protection and installation requirements. The car's onboard charger matters alongside the station's advertised output.

Is DC charging included?

Verify DC capability on the actual version rather than assuming every Song Plus DM-i is identical. AC operation does not establish DC operation. Confirm any required vehicle-to-load function, output limits, accessories and instructions separately. Physical plug fit alone does not prove electrical or communication compatibility; a simple adapter is not a universal solution.

What should a test record?

Identify the car, charger, starting charge level, relevant temperatures, observed behaviour and faults. Demonstrate starting, stopping and unlocking a session with the intended equipment. Clarify account or network dependencies and which cables or portable equipment are included. Send your destination and intended charger types with your request, and check local service support before budgeting for additional equipment.

05 / PASSENGERS AND EQUIPMENT

Check the cabin through the way you will use it.

Comfort, luggage access and working controls need an operating check. An equipment list alone does not establish whether the proposed car meets your requirements.

What must fit?

Ask for current front-seat, rear-seat and luggage-area photographs. Describe child-seat needs, regular passengers or work equipment. Check seating adjustment, access, storage, the actual rear-seat arrangement and tailgate operation. If a particular item must fit, request relevant measurements on the selected car rather than relying on an exterior dimension or another version's loading photograph.

Which features work?

Test air conditioning, windows, mirrors, locks, lighting, screens, cameras and parking functions. Distinguish factory equipment from aftermarket changes. For fitted driver assistance, confirm the actual functions, operating limits and relevant repair or calibration history. A feature listing does not establish correct operation after a repair.

What follows the next owner?

Agree the keys, charging equipment and accessories included. Demonstrate essential access and driving with the supplied physical keys and intended offline workflow. Screen language, phone pairing, account transfer, navigation, remote controls and updates need separate checks for the destination and next owner. Add must-have functions to the vehicle brief before comparing offers.

For several cars, identify the equipment that must be consistent and the differences you can accept. Matching exterior colour does not establish matching seats, cameras or charging hardware. Record how any proposed substitution will be described and approved, and retain a separate accepted specification for each vehicle.

06 / THE CONDITION RECORD

Connect the inspection to the car being offered.

A used Song Plus DM-i needs a whole-vehicle assessment. Petrol-system, battery and charging evidence should agree with its identity, history and physical condition.

What was inspected?

Begin with a dated report tied to the VIN, production labels and proposed specification. Request exterior, cabin, under-bonnet and underbody photographs. An EV-qualified inspector should examine the battery enclosure, mounting areas and nearby wiring for impacts, corrosion, water exposure or earlier repair. Review structural areas, panel work, airbag observations and tyre wear alongside the declared history.

Compare the displayed mileage with service entries, available historical records and cabin wear. Ask which areas were inaccessible and which conclusions remain provisional. For several vehicles, keep a separate identity and inspection file for every VIN; a similar colour or trim does not establish matching condition.

How did it operate?

Review a cold engine start, service history, leaks and cooling observations. Include a hybrid-system diagnostic scan, road test and charging checks appropriate to the fitted equipment. Record warnings, unusual noise or vibration and the conditions in which they occur. Check brakes, steering, suspension, tyres, air conditioning, lights, locks, screens and the supplied keys.

A battery-health percentage needs a date, method and operating context. Ask what diagnostic data was accessible, whether faults were present before clearing, and what remains untested. Identify the installed traction battery and any replacement paperwork; assess the low-voltage 12V battery separately. A short drive or dashboard charge display cannot establish every aspect of usable capacity.

What happens next?

Agree acceptance criteria, required preparation and a completion check for any promised repair. Where a VIN-specific recall or service campaign applies, request the relevant completion evidence. Use trained personnel for high-voltage work. New-car sourcing instead calls for matching production specification, registration status, storage condition, transport-damage checks and an agreed pre-delivery inspection. Bring the findings together with the version record before accepting a quotation.

07 / OWNERSHIP AFTER ARRIVAL

Establish the service route before the purchase.

Parts, diagnostics and warranty terms need to match the actual Song Plus DM-i and its destination. A familiar model name is not enough.

Who can service it?

Give your receiving workshop the VIN, powertrain details, battery identification and inspection file. Confirm appropriate hybrid diagnostic access, high-voltage competence and the service information it can obtain. Use the selected vehicle's schedule and fluid specifications rather than an interval copied from another model or market.

Order parts by VIN and part number, including charging components, electronic modules, cooling parts and routine consumables. Check compatibility, supply arrangements and who can perform coding or calibration where required. A part advertised for Song Plus EV or Song Pro is not automatically the correct DM-i component. Ask which work can be completed locally and which requires an outside specialist. For a component essential to daily operation, clarify diagnosis, supply, installation and any programming before treating a quoted part price as the complete repair allowance.

Which terms apply?

Build the first-service allowance from recorded maintenance and unresolved inspection findings. Separate work already completed from work due or awaiting diagnosis. Low displayed mileage does not establish that every time-based service has been carried out.

Check the cabin and software requirements alongside the workshop arrangements. Obtain any proposed warranty from the named provider in writing, including territory, transfer conditions, exclusions and claims procedure. Distinguish manufacturer coverage from a seller or independent service arrangement.

08 / THE QUOTATION BOARD

Make the US$7,000–10,000 reference useful.

This range starts a used Song Plus DM-i discussion. The actual car and written service scope determine the individual quotation.

Which purchase route?

Three separate quotation questions
RouteConfirm before comparing
Used Song Plus DM-iExact version, history, condition, battery evidence and required preparation.
New Song Plus DM-iRequested specification, production version, registration status and availability; separate pricing.
DeliveryIncluded services, transport, insurance and destination responsibilities.

What is included?

Ask whether inspection, preparation, inland transport and export handling are included. Freight, insurance, duties, taxes, port charges, clearance and registration require their own confirmation. The reference range does not establish stock availability, an Incoterm or a delivered price. Check the quotation date, validity, currency and payment stages.

Compare like-for-like condition and scope. A cheaper proposal may have a different battery version, repair needs, missing accessories or weaker records. Allocate shared shipment charges consistently when buying several cars and avoid counting an included service twice. Use the per-vehicle cost worksheet to organise quoted amounts, then send priorities and acceptable compromises in your enquiry.

09 / THE DELIVERY RECORD

Align the vehicle, documents and destination.

Check import suitability and the ownership plan before committing. An export arrangement in China does not by itself establish permission to register the car abroad.

What needs checking?

Provide the exact vehicle details to a qualified destination broker. Confirm age, registration, steering position, conformity, emissions and applicable plug-in hybrid requirements. Establish the intended registration category and route-specific documents. Review the charging arrangement and workshop support at the same time.

Agree the invoice, vehicle records, export/customs and transport paperwork with the relevant providers. Check any translations, inspections or certificates with your broker. Carrier acceptance and preparation requirements must cover the selected plug-in hybrid's fuel and battery condition; do not assume a damaged or faulty car can travel under the normal arrangement.

Who is responsible?

Record the VIN or specification, quantity, condition, price, payment stages and acceptance process. Identify who arranges inspection, preparation, export handling, freight, insurance and clearance. Where a delivery term is used, specify its named place and responsibilities.

Document condition, keys, cables and accessories before loading. Review insurance limits, arrival inspection, collection and the process for reporting damage or missing items. Keep vehicle identification consistent across the accepted offer, inspection record and transport file. If a proposed substitution changes the version or documents, resolve its implications with the relevant providers before shipment. Treat transport dates as provisional until the relevant booking is confirmed. Share destination country and preferred port in your enquiry so the discussion can address the actual route.

10 / QUICK ANSWERS

Questions before your Song Plus enquiry.

Start with the decisions that affect the car, its price and how you will use it.

Is US$7,000–10,000 a new-car price?

No. It is the used Song Plus DM-i reference range. New vehicles need a separate quotation after specification, production and registration status, availability and service scope are confirmed.

Does that range include shipping?

It does not establish a delivered offer. Ask for an itemised quotation separating the car and included services from freight, insurance and destination charges.

Must I charge before every journey?

No. A serviceable DM-i can use petrol/electric hybrid operation under its normal operating requirements. Regular external charging changes the energy-use pattern. Compare costs on the appropriate basis in the energy discussion.

Do all Song Plus DM-i versions charge the same way?

No. Confirm the actual AC/DC equipment, inlets and documented capability, then test the required mode with compatible equipment. Another version or market's specification is not proof for the offered car.

Can Song Plus EV or Song Pro details be used instead?

No. Establish the exact model and powertrain separately. Compare the Song Plus DM-i identity rather than substituting another model's battery, equipment or dimensions.

What should I send for a quotation?

Share destination, quantity, new or used preference, budget, acceptable year and mileage, essential equipment and delivery scope. Include an email address or WhatsApp number for a reply.
